The Infinity Journey

The Infinity Journey is central to the StarScraper philosophy. It reminds us of the journey we are on, where we began, and that our ultimate aim is continuous improvement, not a finish line. It also forces us to recognise that by the grace and goodness of others, we are who we are today.

Where we began

The Harvard Centre on the Developing Child informs us that while we inherit genes from our parents, epigenetics is of equal importance to our individual development. This means that the world around us, particularly in the first five years of life, ultimately determines which of the genes we inherited are activated and which will lie dormant. A strong attachment to our primary caregiver, nutrition, access to green spaces and toxin free environments, play and toxic stress are some of the key factors that can turn our genes on and off. Our future health, behaviour and cognitive ability is built on this foundation. Whether or not our individual foundation is strong or crumbling is due to the grace and goodness of others; our families, our communities and our societies.

Our Journey

All of our knowledge and skills can be considered in the context of our Infinity Journey. Some learnings begin gradually and are refined over a long stretch of time. Other learnings come hard and fast when we are thrown in the deep end and are forced to sink or swim. In either example it is only when we our outside of our comfort zone, extending our knowledge or abilities into unknown terrain that we are growing. Feelings of uncertainty, discomfort and incompetence are a sure sign of growth. This inexorably demands courage. For any knowledge or skills that we have we can chart our progress along our Infinity Journey. Some learnings we have mastered, others are in their infancy. The only certain thing is that for every piece of knowledge and for every ability, each individual person is on his or her own Infinity Journey. As social beings and in today’s global society each one of us, from the food we eat to the clothes we wear to the technology we use each day means we are interdependent on one another. By the grace and goodness of others we are who we are today.
